if the idea of some of Tampa's best food trucks gathering for a massive lunchtime fiesta in Downtown Tampa doesn't make your ears perk up or your mouth water, then we don't know what will.

That's the name of the game with the Mayor's Food Truck Fiesta, a huge gathering of Tampa food trucks and all their tasty creations as well as Tampa residents and visitors alike taking place on the first Wednesday of every month at Lykes Gaslight Square Park in Downtown Tampa.

This month's edition was no different as 10 of Tampa food trucks gathered amongst hundreds of hungry patrons in the cool, midday weather.  Food trucks featured at this December edition of the Mayor's Food Truck Fiesta included NYO Food Truck, Keep'n It Reel, Cuppin Cake, Graffeaties, Pictureman Catering, Michelle Faedo's On the Go, Killer Samich, Taste of Chicago, Nate Paul's Q4U, and Destination Grill.

NYO (Not Your Ordinary) Food Truck specializes in exotic meats like bison and rattlesnake as well as burgers and other specialized entrees, but my sites were immediately set on the bacon, Sriracha, and bleu cheese fries sketched upon the blackboard.

They were...disappointing, but this is a combination so great, that disappointing doesn't mean a clean plate.  For $5, the portion size was about the size of my palm, compromised of about 10 undercooked steak-cut fries and ample amounts of bleu cheese and bacon.  Heavenly, but poorly-executed.

Next door, the quizically-named Graffeaties attracted me with an ample assortment of creative, Mexican-inspired street eats.  Their chorizo short rib tacos topped the menu and came loaded with chorizo, braised short rib, onion, radish, nappa cabbage, queso fresco, salsa verde, avacado cream drizzle on steamed corn tortillas.

8 bucks for two tacos is pretty steep, but man, I want to say these things were worth it.  The braised short rib was soft, juicy, salty and the perfect contrast to the cool cabbage and other toppings.

Overall, this was another great experience at Mayor's Food Truck Fiesta.  If you're looking for a variety of new, creative, and affordable eats in an enjoyably unique outdoor setting, then the Mayor's Food Truck Fiesta is the place to be.
