The city of Tampa is ready to begin construction on newest section of the city's famous waterfront walkway, Riverwalk, which will extend it another 22o feet north of the Brownstone segment which is currently being built in Downtown Tampa.

Tampa Mayor, Bob Buckhorn is set to unveil a sign that will indicate this new phase of construction on Wednesday morning at MacDill Park on Ashley Drive.

This new Riverwalk section will be built over the water around the Captrust building and connect the beautiful walkway to MacDill Park.  The extension is poised to cost the city $1.44 million and be finished by February of 2013.

On Wednesday, Buckhorn will also unveil a new audio cell phone tour in conjunction with the new Riverwalk section.  The tour, developed by the nonprofit organization, Friends of the Riverwalk, will allow visitors  to gain historical information and up to date news on establishments along the Riverwalk by way of their cell phones.

Visitors will notice signs along the Riverwalk with a number - (813) 319-8441 - that they can call at seven different stations along the walkway.  Each station offers information on three to eight different points of interest along the Riverwalk.

The Riverwalk provides an exciting walking experience in Downtown Tampa and travels past notable destinations including the Glazer Children's Museum, the American Victory Ship, and Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park.
