According to the Ybor City Chamber of Commerce, motorized floats will be back for Guavaween 2011 on Saturday, September 29 in Ybor City.

Motorized floats were banned from Mama Guava's Stumble Parade a couple years ago in an effort to revitalize the parade's roots as well as cut the cost of security and setting up/deconstructing barriers alongside the route through Ybor City. Much to the ire of some Tampa krewes, many of whom regularly brought motorized floats to parades like Guavaween and Gasparilla, the rule has stuck until now. The Ybor City Chamber of Commerce announced Sunday that motorized floats will be welcome at Guavaween 2011.

Guavaween is regularly praised as one of the biggest Fall events in the Tampa Bay Area and attracts anywhere from 30,000 to 50,000 attendees each year.  This year's Halloween-inspired theme will be "superheroes".  Attendees are encouraged to bust out the tights and capes and dress as their favorite superhero.  Do it well enough and you take the top prize at Guavaween's costume contest.

In addition to the parade and costume contest, many Ybor City restaurants will transform into gourmet street vendors along the parade route during Guavaween 2011.  Live music is also an expected addition, but no bands or artists have been announced quite yet.

The Chamber of Commerce is suspending the day-time Family Fun Fest this year to focus on bringing more resources to, and improving the quality of the nighttime festivities.
